Evening Update for Thursday, August 3, 2017

Our Pick Your Own Fields will be open for our scheduled evening pick from 6:30 to 8:30pm.  Looks uncertain as to whether we’ll actually even see any rain our way until late tonight, and there’s a good chance of rain tomorrow so sounds like tonight is the time to get some berries!  Thursday evening, we’ll have good pea picking and light picking in the raspberries, Saskatoons and strawberries.

“Light Picking” means the picking will be good for a basket of berries or so per person. We are now into the last 3- 4 days of the strawberry season and we still have lots of BEAUTIFUL berries to fill your baskets, but the size of the berries does get just a bit smaller now. Luckily, smaller berries still taste just as good if not sweeter than the bigger berries!

The Farm Store will be open from 6:30 to 9pm.

From our Farm, we will have: New Potatoes, Garlic Scapes, Greenhouse-Grown Slicing Cucumbers, a limited supply of Fresh Picked Peas, and we will have a limited supply of Fresh Picked Strawberries available!. Please call 475 5181 right before you head out to the farm to confirm the availability of Fresh Picked Strawberries and Peas.

From our Small-Scale, Sustainable, Ontario Farm Partners we will have:  Mulberries, Gooseberries, Golden Plums, Bok Choy, White Asparagus, Onions, Shallots, Greenhouse Grown Sweet Bell Peppers and Eggplants.

From the wilds of NW Ontario we will have: Wild Chanterelle Mushrooms!

Upcoming Crops:  Yellow and Green Beans are just days away now, Wild Blueberries may be in within the week, Cucumbers may be ready in about 7 to 10 days and Sweet Corn may be ready by the middle of August!  Keep in touch for updated information.

There is some construction happening on Hwy 130, especially if you head out to the farm from Hwy 11/17 or Arthur Street. We suggest taking Hwy 61 South (towards the US border) to Hwy 130.  Turn right onto Hwy 130.  You’ll then take a short detour around the construction which will actually lead you right by our Farm’s entrance!   From the airport, it should take you about 15-20 minutes to reach the farm.

The “Pick Your Own” experience is a bit unique in that our Pick Your Own availability can change due to weather, ripening or simply if we’ve had a big crowd here, and, therefore, our fields are picked out. That’s why we always suggest (even though we do set a “Pick Your Own” schedule of hours) that you call our info line: 475 5181 or check in with these updates for DAILY picking conditions.

Our Schedule of Pick Your Own Hours (subject to Mother Nature)
Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9am  to 12pm
Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to  8:30pm
Saturday from 9am  to 1pm
Sunday from 12pm to 4pm

Our Farm Store Regular Hours

Sunday from 12pm  to 4pm
(and the Farm Store opens with the evenings picks as available)

At the farm we accept debit, VISA and Mastercard, however, as a small business, we sure do appreciate it when you are able to use cash or debit.

For those of you looking for information on the Little Red Barn: There simply wasn’t enough yield from our strawberry fields to have strawberries for you at the Little Red Barn this year. Our apologies!  It was a bit of a challenging year for strawberries. HOWEVER! We are certainly hoping there will be enough yield this year to be at the Little Red Barn with our VEGGIES including peas, beans, carrots, beets, potatoes and eventually sweet corn and cucumbers. At this point, though, it doesn’t look like we’ll be starting at the Little Red Barn until sometime in early to mid August. But do keep in touch, because if things change we will definitely post the information here on our Farm Updates page and have it on our info line as well: 475 5181

We know your furry family members love to take a drive out to the country, however, due to health and safety concerns for both humans and our farm animals, we cannot have any pets in the Pick Your Own fields, the Farm Store, the Greenhouse or the Children’s Play Area.
